NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
In a shocking escalation of resistance against law enforcement in West Bengal's Bhangar region, two Kolkata police officers were brutally assaulted today while they arrived to investigate and further shut down an illegal house construction encroaching on government land in South Bamaniya under Uttar Kashipur police station. The confrontation turned intense from verbal conflict and then further a mob including women surrounded the officers, allegedly beating them with sticks and bamboo with one attacker savagely bitten Constable Rabi Roy's hand, tearing off a chunk of flesh in a gruesome act.
Sub-Inspector Manjur Alam Mondal, rushing to his colleague's aid, was also battered in the melee, leaving both men bloodstained. This violent backlash highlights the simmering tensions in Bhangar, where land disputes and unauthorized builds often erupt into outright anarchy, endangering those sworn to uphold the law. The ordeal began primarily with a routine spot investigation upon complaints received from locas about the unauthorized construction that had been going along for days. As the officers arrived and started their routine investigation, a group of women formed the initial barrier, encircling the duo officers and hurling insults, before some more joined the fray, unleashing a barrage of blows with sticks bamboos. Constable Roy's hand became the epicenter of the savagery, the bite so ferocious that the flesh from his hands were torn off, while SI Mondal beaten brutally while he tries to save his fellow colleague constable Rabi Roy. The Kolkata Police officers fighting desperately to hold their ground until reinforcements could arrive.
Swift action followed the distress call back to Uttar Kashipur police station, as a backup team stormed the site, rescued the injured pair and rushed them off to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Three key suspects from the mob had been arrested, where police vowed to pursue charges for assault on duty personnel. The area remains on heightened police presence to deter further unrest and ongoing probes to identify additional culprits attached to this illegal construction project. For the battered officers, it's a stark reminder of the perils lurking in everyday enforcement, fueling calls for stronger measures against such brazen encroachments that threaten public order and safety
